Midtown boutique hotel and restaurant offer healing environment

Philadelphia, PA (May 2019) – DAS Architects, the region’s foremost hospitality firm, is designing a 14-story hotel and restaurant at 11th & Sansom that will accentuate health and wellness.

“Greek Philosophy’s guiding principles of balance and unity informed our design of this boutique hotel,” said Susan M. Davidson, IDC, co-founder and principal of DAS Architects. “The modern and minimalist spaces will feature a warm and neutral color palette, emphasizing natural materials, with expansive green walls on every floor. Our goal is to create an environment that promotes healing, centering and living a meaningful life.”

Adjacent to Jefferson Hospital, the 86-room hotel at 122 South 11th Street will be a light-filled glass and aluminum-clad tower with dark bronze accents.  The guestroom balconies are placed to create a rhythm around the façade and a simplified capital tops off the structure. Some guestrooms will have provisions for an extended stay.

“The elegance and comfort of Blu Ivy will be a welcome addition to the surrounding medical neighborhood,” said David A. Schultz, AIA, co-founder and principal of DAS Architects. “It will offer a serene environment for those needing to heal or simply to visitors who want a quiet contemplative place in Midtown.”

Anthos, the two-story restaurant within the hotel, will have a modern Mediterranean vibe with subtle references to the Greek heritage of the owners. The exterior of the restaurant will be embellished with a steel pergola and planters of ivy with glass folding partitions extending the dining experience out to the streetscape. Anthos will have bar seating for 23 and restaurant seating for 198. DAS’s client, Sansom Realty Holdings, is the owner of Pietro’s, Estia and several other successful restaurants in the region.

“Anthos means ‘flowering’ in Greek,” said Davidson, “and that describes the sense we are trying to convey. This is a place to heal and thrive. Eliminating the typical sensory traps, the furnishings and finishes will be calming and inspired by nature and guests will feel their spirits revived.”

Blu Ivy and Anthos are expected to be complete in Fall 2020.

The design team includes DAS Architects – architecture, interior design, furniture design; O’Donnell & Naccarato – structural engineering; Concord Engineering Group – m/e/p engineering; Corsi Associates – food service design.
