Richard McGill, P.E., joins McLaren with 25-plus years of site civil engineering expertise

McLaren Engineering Group, a full-service engineering firm, announced last week that Richard McGill, P.E., has joined its Baltimore office as Principal, Civil Division, leading a 12-person team comprised of civil engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, and geotechnical and construction service experts.

McGill has over 25 years of engineering management experience, including over a decade running his own firm. He has a diverse portfolio of site civil and land planning projects ranging from complex federal and municipal contracts, to commercial, industrial and residential endeavors in and out of the state of Maryland.

“Rich’s experience managing public and private sector projects across Maryland, including prominent industrial, health care and municipal developments, makes him an extraordinary asset to our Baltimore leadership team,” says Dave McLaren, Maryland regional director, McLaren Engineering Group. “We are excited to have him lead our growing civil division.”

McGill began his career working with large residential developers in southern Maryland and grew to manage complex multi-discipline design teams on public and private sector projects across the state. Career highlights include the ongoing redesign of the University of Maryland Medical Center’s 50-acre campus in Laurel, the master plan of Bensville Regional Park in White Plains, and the Solomons Islands streetscape in Calvert County.

McGill also has a proven track record of remotely managing partners and consultants for prominent out-of-state projects including a federally funded waterfront reclamation and marina for the city of Whiting, Ind.

“Rich’s distinguished body of work and entrepreneurial spirit fit perfectly with McLaren’s culture of ‘Applied Ingenuity,’” says Mal McLaren, founder and CEO, McLaren Engineering Group. “We are pleased to have him join our Baltimore leadership team and help drive our ongoing innovation.”

McLaren’s Baltimore office, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, has grown to include over 40 full-time staff overseeing marquee projects, including The Cordish Company’s Maryland Live! Casino & Hotel, the Appraisers’ Building in Baltimore, 706 Giddings Ave. in West Annapolis and the National Aquarium’s floating wetlands installation in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

“I’m excited to lead the civil division for McLaren’s Baltimore office,” says McGill. “Our growing, talented team provides a comprehensive suite of development services to clients, from property acquisition and land planning, through permitting and construction administration on to occupancy – taking projects from start to finish.”

McGill holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University and Professional Engineering (P.E.) licenses in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Delaware.
