Healthcare expert brings 30-year background with a focus on transformational design and leadership

Scott Reed has joined Stantec—a global architecture, engineering, and consulting firm—as principal in its healthcare buildings team in Los Angeles. Reed joins the firm’s growing LA office to provide leadership and focus on delivering innovative solutions to healthcare clients in the Southern California market. He joins principals Joanne McAllister and Jeff Hankin in San Diego and Richey Madison in Irvine to provide a strong network of local leadership with access to a large Northern California and global healthcare practice.

With 30 years of experience, Reed has built a reputation for transformational strategic leadership, with a primary focus on client and business development, combined with the knowledge and expertise to create exceptional, award-winning architecture. He’s worked with key clients including University of California medical campuses at UC Irvine, UCLA, and UC San Diego; Cedars-Sinai Health System, and City of Hope. Reed also served as the Western Region market and practice leader for Cannon Design in Los Angeles, where he served as principal-in-charge of the UC San Diego Health, Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla, CA. The 509,500-square-foot medical center serves as three-hospitals-in-one, with a focus on women’s and children’s health, cancer, and specialty surgery. The tower is the cornerstone of a new campus identity focused on the future of health, pairing cutting-edge, modern medicine with a best-in-class patient experience.

Reed is an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He has been professionally appointed to Arizona State University’s Council for Design Excellence, served as a Design Award Juror for the Center for Healthcare Design, was appointed to the Design Review Panel for the Center for Healthcare Design’s Design Awards, and led a roundtable discussion on “empowering wellness and personalized medical futures” at the 2012 Healthcare Design Conference. He was also an IIDA Honor Awards Juror for Northern California in 2008. Reed received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of North Carolina, is a registered architect in multiple states, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and a NCARB certified architect

Reed’s hire comes on the heels of Stantec’s hiring of Erik Hanson, demonstrating the firm’s continued commitment to strengthening its healthcare expertise across the West. Hanson joined Stantec’s Buildings Group leadership team in the San Francisco office as principal and is leading the firm’s pursuit strategies for major healthcare and science and technology clients. He is also leading the development of strategy behind the growth of Stantec’s healthcare practice across California.
