ACI Foundation funds research projects

The ACI Foundation’s Concrete Research Council (CRC) selected eight research projects to receive grants this year. CRC seeks concrete research projects that further the knowledge and sustainability of concrete materials, construction, and structures in coordination with ACI Committees where possible. CRC recommended these eight projects for funding, based on impact to industry, ACI Committee engagement and collaboration with other funders and organizations.

AIA postpones announcement of COTE Top Ten Awards

“Our goal is to be able to announce these inspiring COTE Top Ten projects at a time when we can all celebrate and focus on their achievements,” said Julie Hiromoto, AIA, chair of the COTE. “As we acknowledge the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we remain committed to design’s influence on climate action for human and ecological health.”

FGIA transitions Summer Conference to virtual event

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) will hold its Summer Conference virtually due to the spread of COVID-19 and requests by government leadership to shelter-in-place. This event, previously intended to be held in Chicago, IL, will be hosted on Zoom for the convenience of participants. The event dates remain largely unchanged with the conference taking place Tuesday, June 23 through Thursday, June 25. Registration for the virtual Summer Conference will open the week of May 4.

The International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) announces its first official branch in Mexico City, Mexico, and is proud to now offer leadership activity in all of North America, with 27 chapters and 11 branches throughout the U.S., Canada, and now Mexico.

ASLA celebrates World Landscape Architecture Month

April is World Landscape Architecture Month. Despite the pandemic keeping millions of people indoors, landscape architects in the United States and around the globe are coming together virtually to tell their stories through the Life Grows Here campaign. “As landscape architects, we design places and experiences for life to grow and flourish. We design places that foster healing and renewal. We create settings for community gathering. We bring beauty to public spaces. When this current crisis abates, and our necessary isolation ends, the places landscape architects create will be even more important,” said Wendy Miller, FASLA, president of ASLA.
