Toyota to build Woven City, a prototype city of the future

Earlier this week Toyota announced plans to build a prototype “city” of the future on a 175-acre site at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. For the design of Woven City, Toyota has commissioned Danish architect, Bjarke Ingels, founder and creative director, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Envisioned as a “living laboratory,” the Woven City will serve as a home to full- time residents and researchers who will be able to test and develop technologies such as autonomy, robotics, personal mobility, smart homes and artificial intelligence in a real-world environment.

Mohawk receives Canada’s first zero carbon dual certification

The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation at Mohawk College has become the first building in Canada to receive Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) Standard certification in both the Design and Performance categories from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). The high-performance building envelope, consisting of triple-pane glazing and insulated pre-cast sandwich panels, maximizes heating, cooling and natural light.

Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities Unveils First-of-its-Kind HouseZero Lab & Prototype

“HouseZero’s flexible, data-driven infrastructure will allow us to further research that demystifies building behavior, and design the next generation of ultra-efficient structures,” said Ali Malkawi, founding director of the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities and the creator and leader of the HouseZero project. “By creating both a prototype and an infrastructure for long-term research, we hope to raise interest in ultra-efficient retrofits and inspire substantial shifts in the design and operation of buildings.”
