Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh, N.C.

The Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral’s dome, apse and tabernacle all required a high degree of precision and detail, twisting and molding two layers of CertainTeed Gypsum wallboard to match the structural frame, which was first constructed on the ground and then lifted high into the ceilings’ curved surfaces to be fit and secured. The architecture also featured barrel-vaulted ceilings and splayed window returns, distinguishing this project from other cathedrals in the region.

ESD’s new headquarters demonstrates sustainable design with CertainTeed Gypsum

One of ESD’s biggest priorities for the project was to achieve LEED Silver certification. CertainTeed Gypsum was an attractive manufacturer to ESD for its selection and quality of environmental product declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPD). EPDs are independently-verified third-party reports that outline a building product’s impact on the environment.

Solarban 90 Solar Control Low-E Glass Solarban 90 glass combines industry-leading solar control performance with a true neutral-reflective clear-glass aesthetic. United with clear glass in a standard 1-inch IGU, Solarban 90 glass has a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.23, visible light transmittance of 51 percent and an LSG ratio of 2.22. Solarban 90 glass facilitates the use of smaller HVAC systems to reduce initial capital expenditures and long-term cooling costs. It also enables architects to design buildings with larger expanses of glass to promote daylighting, diminish the need for artificial lighting and connect building occupants to the outdoors.
