Vaisala to break ground on OZ Architecture-designed North American headquarters

The clean, modern architecture belies the complex design of the building to make it one of the Colorado’s most sustainability constructed. The floor assembly will be built with cross-laminated timber (CLT), a wood-based sustainable material, in lieu of steel. The OZ team also incorporated a highly efficient heating and cooling system, extra insulation, low-e glass throughout the building’s extensive windows and glass walls, and advanced water-saving fixtures. The end result will be a NetZero-ready building with extraordinary low energy use that far surpasses energy-use codes, making it one of Colorado’s most sustainable office buildings.

NYSERDA announces grand opening of Solara Apartments net-zero residential building project in Rotterdam

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced the completion of the first phase of Solara Apartments, a new multifamily development that is built to net-zero construction standards. A report released, “New York Getting to Net-zero Status Report,” by the New Buildings Institute shows New York State is leading the Northeast in net-zero buildings with 27 documented ongoing and completed net-zero building projects and a total of 132 net-zero, high-performance, and Passive House building projects which implement a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, which reduces the building’s ecological footprint.

Green Hammer Design Build and Rose Villa announce first Zero Energy senior living multi-family project in Portland

The first of its kind in the Portland senior living marketplace, The Oaks Zero Energy Neighborhood at Rose Villa is designed so that each residence meets its own energy needs through a combination of ultra-energy-efficient design and on-site renewable energy generation.The Oaks is a neighborhood within Rose Villa, a cottage community for senior living set on 22 acres along the Willamette River, designed and built by the Portland-based design build firm Green Hammer.

Solarban 90 Solar Control Low-E Glass Solarban 90 glass combines industry-leading solar control performance with a true neutral-reflective clear-glass aesthetic. United with clear glass in a standard 1-inch IGU, Solarban 90 glass has a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.23, visible light transmittance of 51 percent and an LSG ratio of 2.22. Solarban 90 glass facilitates the use of smaller HVAC systems to reduce initial capital expenditures and long-term cooling costs. It also enables architects to design buildings with larger expanses of glass to promote daylighting, diminish the need for artificial lighting and connect building occupants to the outdoors.
