The International Code Council launched two online building code tools for building safety professionals and the public to access free information about building code usage in their communities. “Building codes represent a highly cost-effective strategy to help protect communities from the risks posed by natural and man-made events,” said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “We are very excited to launch these two databases that provide important code information that is useful to all community stakeholders.”

Applications open for communities to pilot new buildings and housing benchmarks

The Alliance for National & Community Resilience (ANCR), a member of the International Code Council’s family of solutions, has opened the application process for communities to join an in-depth piloting program for new buildings and housing benchmarks. As part of the program, communities will participate in ANCR’s Community Resilience Benchmarks (CRB) system, which supports communities in evaluating their current resilience and identifying strategies for improvement. Uniquely, this system assesses the social, organizational and infrastructural aspects of communities to enable examination of the community’s vulnerabilities and strengths.

As local and state governments are beginning a phased reopening of their economies, the International Code Council has compiled a guide of safety precautions and considerations for businesses looking to resume in-office activities. Acting as an aggregate information hub, the Code Council’s Coronavirus Response Center offers relevant information for building professionals and potential occupants to understand the impact the pandemic has had on the industry, as well as for companies who are currently creating plans and strategies to move back into their offices.

International Code Council extends deadline for 2021 and 2022 committee applications

Due to the current state of affairs surrounding COVID-19, the International Code Council is extending the application process for its 2021/2022 code development cycle call for code, interpretation and code correlation committees. The new deadline for applications will now be June 15, 2020. Understanding that modern building codes requires input from professionals throughout the building pipeline to be effective, the Code Council’s most important asset is the time and expertise of the volunteers that partake in numerous ICC committees.
