Two KTGY designs selected as 2019 NMHC Innovation Challenge finalists

KTGY Architecture + Planning announced that the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) has named its five finalists for its 2019 Innovation Challenge competition, with KTGY receiving two finalist honors. This year’s challenge sought solutions for reducing the construction costs or time to bend the cost curve of housing production as a way to address the nation’s housing affordability crisis.

September construction starts decrease 5 percent

September construction starts decrease 5 percent

New construction starts moved 5% lower in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $774.1 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. By major sector, nonbuilding construction fell 13% in September, while residential construction dropped 6%. On the plus side, nonresidential construction starts rose 1% during the month aided by the start of a large manufacturing project.

The International Code Council is hosting its 2019 Annual Conference, Code Hearings, and Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 20 – 30, 2019. The event brings together professionals from every sector of the building industry to learn new skills, share best practices, and listen to the leading professionals in the building safety and construction space. Immediately following the conference, attendees will participate in the Group B Public Comment Hearings on the development of the 2021 International Codes (I-Codes), the most widely used and adopted set of building safety codes in the world.

METALCON vice president of tradeshows retires after 35 years

METALCON was established in 1991, and Claire Kilcoyne has been there every step along the way. Responsible for the organizational leadership of a tight-knit team in the planning and execution of METALCON’S event logistics, Kilcoyne began her career with parent company, PSMJ Resources, Inc., in 1985 with a focus on tradeshow sales. METALCON has come full circle for Kilcoyne with her grand finale taking place in Pittsburgh’s Steel City, home to long-time partners’ United States Steel Corporation and PPG Industries, both actively involved with METALCON since its inception.

Dr. Paul Bove shares what manufacturers need to know about Texas’ windstorm program

A representative from the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), Dr. Paul Bove, spoke to those at the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) Fall Conference about the state’s voluntary windstorm program and what manufacturers need to know when operating in 14 Texas counties in a designated catastrophe area along the Gulf Coast. He provided an overview of the program as well as relevant building code requirements; requirements for fenestration products; those products’ submittal requirements; the product evaluation process; and common issues associated with submittals and evaluation.
