The Brick Industry Association (BIA) has awarded the 2020 Brick in Architecture Awards, the nation’s premier design competition featuring clay brick. “These exceptional projects show there’s virtually no limit to brick as a leading element of sustainable design,” said Ray Leonhard, BIA’s President and CEO.
The Dodge Momentum Index, issued by Dodge Data & Analytics, rose 7.1% in February to 149.0 from the revised January reading of 139.1. The institutional component of the Momentum Index jumped 26.3% during the month, while the commercial component was essentially flat.

The director of sustainable design and building innovation for MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects (MJMA), John Peterson, delivered a presentation entitled “Inspired Design Trends for Commercial and Residential Construction” at the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) Virtual Annual Conference. In this session led by John Peterson, participants learned the latest on sustainability demands and the popular ways buildings are being designed to surpass the highest sustainability and energy-efficiency benchmarks.
Denver Water announced last week that eight buildings in its Operations Complex Redevelopment project have been awarded Platinum, Gold, and Silver levels of LEED certification. “Due to climate change and future uncertainties, innovation, resilience and adaptability are necessary to serve our customers using fewer resources,” said Kate Taft, sustainability manager for Denver Water. “We serve and care for the community and environment that we live in by continually improving our operations.”
An official agreement for collaboration between the Fenestration Association of British Columbia (FEN-BC) and the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) was finalized on Feb. 9, 2021, developing mutual synergies that will allow both organizations to best support their respective members.

Robert Jutras, principal engineer at UL led a sponsored session called “The New Canadian High Exposure Fenestration Installation Standard CSA A440.6:20, Explained” during the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) Virtual Annual Conference. This new document from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) was published in 2020 and encompasses more than 140 pages, mapping out specifications for the installation of fenestration products in buildings of four or more stories in height, and of all occupancies.
