Registration is now open for the 2021 FGIA Virtual Annual Conference, which will be held Feb. 23-25. “FGIA owes its success and recognition in the industry to the time, energy, and talent of our members. These leaders help FGIA achieve its vision of improving home and building performance through better glass, window, door and skylight technology and standards,” said Janice Yglesias, FGIA Executive Director. To this end, on Feb. 23, FGIA will host its annual awards ceremony in a virtual format, during which the winners of several prestigious organization awards will be announced and recognized.

University of St. Thomas achieves top environmental rating for new residence hall

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded its highest environmental rating – the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification – to the University of St. Thomas’ Tommie East Residence Hall. The building is the first in the Midwest to certify platinum under the LEED v4 new construction rating system in its category, the sixth in the U.S. and seventh in the world. It marks another step in the university’s larger plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.

Demand for design services from U.S. architecture firms took a pointed dip last month, according to a new report from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The pace of decline during December accelerated from November, posting an Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score of 42.6 from 46.3.
