Architecture Billings Index ends year on positive note

Demand for design services in December increased for the third month in a row, according to a new report today from The American Institute of Architects (AIA). “Despite the ongoing slowdown in billings in the Northeast, balanced growth across sectors and regions looks more positive for the coming year,” said AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker, Hon. AIA, PhD. “Factors outside of the construction sector, such as trade policy and international events, could still impact demand for design services, however recent fears about a downturn in construction activity have largely subsided.”

ACI Foundation’s Strategic Development Council to host Technology Forum

The ACI Foundation’s Strategic Development Council (SDC) will host its Technology Forum 47, in Charleston, S.C., February 11-13, 2020. The main Forum program will include a panel presentation moderated by Dr. Lawrence Sutter “What the New Durability Code Will Mean to You.” Subject matter experts on durability and global codes will share their knowledge and highlight the ACI durability code from the viewpoints of owner, designer, contractor and researcher.

Brick Industry Association names new chairman

The Brick Industry Association (BIA) has elected General Shale CEO Charles Smith as chairman effective January 1. Smith succeeds Brick Industry Association chairman Davis Henry, president, Henry Brick, Co, Selma, Alabama, who will remain as past chair. BIA’s membership also elected Joe Rice, CEO of Belden Tri-State Building Materials, New York, New York as vice chair; Jim Stradley, president of Cincinnati-based Division 4, Inc. as treasure; and Mark Ellenor, president of Glen-Gery Corp., Wyomissing, PA as new secretary.

King County Library System honored with two Library Journal awards
