The American Concrete Institute has released the 2021 ACI Collection of Concrete Codes, Specifications, and Practices. The ACI Collection features ACI 318 “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete,” ACI 301 “Specifications for Structural Concrete,” and ACI 562 “Code Requirements for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures and Commentary.”

March 9 FGIA webinar to highlight study of impact of cavity reduction on triple glazed IG units

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) will host a webinar entitled “The Impact of Cavity Reduction on Triple Glazed IG Units” on Tues., March 9 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern. During this webinar, attendees will learn about the recent study commissioned by the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). It was undertaken to help insulating glass unit (IGU) manufacturers understand the impact that glass deflection can have on the energy performance of triple glazed IG units.

Construction starts down to start 2021

Total construction starts dropped 4% in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $794.3 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. Nonresidential building starts were flat in January, while nonbuilding starts dropped 10% and residential starts were 4% lower.

Top 10 states for LEED green building in 2020 show strong adoption by offices, schools and healthcare

The USGBC has released its annual list of the top 10 states for LEED green building with Massachusetts ranking first in the nation. LEED is the world’s most widely used green building program and was created by USGBC to set standards and define best practices for high-performing, healthy, green buildings. The top states in 2020 certified a remarkable 1,171 projects with more than 60% representing offices, education and healthcare facilities.

FGIA and AVFQ finalize collaboration agreement

An official agreement for collaboration between l’ Association de vitrerie et fenestration du Quebec (AVFQ) and the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has been finalized, allowing for the development of mutual synergies that will enable both organizations to best support their respective members. AVFQ and FGIA agreed to collaborate by sharing information and offering reciprocal benefits and services to members in the areas of education, advocacy, technical standards, research and product certification.

Global Resiliency Dialogue releases report detailing consideration of climate risk in building codes

The Global Resiliency Dialogue published findings of its first international survey in the report, “The Use of Climate Data and Assessment of Extreme Weather Event Risks in Building Codes around the World.” The report is the first deliverable of the Global Resiliency Dialogue and provides valuable context about the current level of integration of climate science in the provisions of advanced building codes around the world.
