Architecture billings lose ground in November

Architecture firm billing activity is contracting once again after two months of a slowing decline, according to a new report from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The pace of decline during November accelerated from October, posting an Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score of 46.3 from 47.5 (any score below 50 indicates a decline in firm billings).

PPG today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Tikkurila in an all-cash transaction. Tikkurila was established in 1862, and is headquartered in Vantaa, Finland. The company is a leading producer and distributor of decorative paint and coatings with operations in 11 countries and more than 80% of its revenue coming from Finland, Sweden, Russia, Poland, and the Baltic states.

December FGIA Industry Update to market studies now available

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has released a second updated industry market study in the FGIA Industry Update of the U.S. Market for Residential and Non-residential Windows, Doors and Skylights. This report is an updated overview of the reports released by the association in May and a prior update released in September. New forecasts included in this update are based on projections of construction activity as of December 2020, including a consensus of current economic and construction forecasts along with input from a sampling of industry participants on year-to-date shipments.

IIBEC announces new dates for 2021 International Convention and Trade Show

The International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) has postponed their 2021 International Convention and Trade Show. The event will now take place September 15-20, 2021 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown and the Phoenix Convention Center. IIBEC’s premier annual event will feature over 25 hours of educational seminars, a two-day trade show with over 140 exhibitors and live product demonstrations, as well as an auction hosted by the RCI-IIBEC Foundation and RCI Foundation Canada.

RDC has unveiled its interior design for the Portland, Oregon offices of construction company Skanska USA Building Inc. The interiors at the historic 1922 building – 1010 NW Flanders St., in the Pearl District – combine comprehensive COVID-resilient features with a themed use of materials that echo both Skanska’s company culture and its Portland surroundings.

KAI transforms 68-year-old South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas

Students at South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas finally have the new learning environment they’ve fought for. Following a two-year, $60 million “extreme makeover,” staff and students excitedly returned in January to a completely transformed 68-year-old campus. The district hired KAI to provide programming/planning, architecture, interior design, community engagement, project management and construction administration on the project. The general contractor was Rogers-O’Brien Construction.
