Breakthrough roof technology patent application for concrete ceiling system without steel reinforcing, by ST Bungalow LLC and Molinelli Architects, published by USPTO. The roof technology, which has numerous design applications, uses plastic which is less expensive and lighter than steel re-bars.
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y./PRNewswire/ — ST Bungalow LLC and Molinelli Architects announced yesterday a patent application for a breakthrough method of making a roof or ceiling for various kinds of buildings, including the “ST Bungalow,” a newly designed and patented, affordable, eco-friendly, solar powered home, was published by the USPTO. The patent application publication, titled “Concrete Floor and Ceiling System without Steel Reinforcing” (pub. no. US 2017/0268242), is a breakthrough because it replaces reinforcing bars (re-bars) with plastic forms.
A patent for a similar roof technology but using fiberglass (not plastic) was granted to ST Bungalow LLC and Molinelli Architects in 2015 (U.S Pat. No. 8,991,137). The inventor of both these technologies is Michael Molinelli AIA LEED ap NCARB, of Molinelli Architects. The roof inventions are intended to be a key component to low cost, affordable, solar powered and eco-friendly housing being developed jointly between ST Bungalow LLC and Molinelli Architects. In 2015 the American Institute of Architects – AIA (Hudson Valley) – honored Molinelli Architects with a design award for the Solar Tectic (ST) Bungalow.
The plastic or fiberglass forms used in the roof technology (to replace steel re-bars) are shaped to efficiently stack, which is an advantage in the transport of multiple such forms. Plastic is a lighter and less expensive material than steel. The plastic forms form an arched ceiling for a first story of a building and a flat roof or flat floor for a second story of a building.
