HBA completes design of the Sound Hotel Seattle Belltown

Hospitality interior design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) has completed the design of The Sound Hotel Seattle Belltown. “We instituted overarching threads of inspiration from the surrounding area to ensure a cohesive design for The Sound Hotel project, using a storyline-based approach from concept development to completion,” said Ashley Bright, HBA senior project designer. “The streets of Belltown exemplify the idea that art is everywhere, and the neighborhood itself is on display as a harbor-front urban gallery. It is this essence of creativity with which we wanted to imbue guests from the moment they arrive.”

Metsä Wood awards Estonian start-up Team 99 for an eco-friendly modular design

Metsä Wood, a Finnish engineered wood product company, has awarded the Estonian start-up Team 99 for its innovative design of a module that can be used to construct buildings of different sizes and shapes, at the same time reducing their overall carbon footprint. The module has been completely designed using LVL (laminated veneer lumber) products.

The objectives of American Concrete Institute’s FRP Composites Student Competition were for students to design, construct, and test a concrete structure reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) to achieve the optimal load-to-cost ratio, predict the ultimate load, and predict the load that will result in a piston deflection of 3.5 mm (0.14 in.).
