View Smart Windows transform St. John’s Terminal in New York City

View announced that View Smart Windows are being installed at St. John’s Terminal, the 12-story, 1.3-million-square-foot commercial office under development by Oxford Properties Group. Designed by the sustainable architecture firm COOKFOX and with more than 400 linear feet of floor-to-ceiling smart windows from View, St. John’s Terminal will offer occupants unobstructed, west-facing views of the Hudson River and the widest sunset in New York City.

Registration open for FGIA Leadership Development Program through March 31

Construction starts down to start 2021

Total construction starts dropped 4% in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $794.3 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. Nonresidential building starts were flat in January, while nonbuilding starts dropped 10% and residential starts were 4% lower.

EXTECH’s LIGHTWALL system transforms old power plant into Beloit College’s new Powerhouse for student recreation

Opened in Aug. 2020, Beloit College transformed a decommissioned coal-burning power station located along Wisconsin’s Rock River into a new field house focused on student recreation and wellness. The former Blackhawk Generating Station was composed of three buildings constructed mostly of brick and concrete from 1908 to 1949. Studio Gang re-imagined the structure as a unified, 120,000-square-foot student union and recreation center. Now known as the Powerhouse, the $38 million renovated building is targeting LEED® Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.

Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) has completed Northwest Independent School District’s (ISD) Haslet Elementary School. Nicknamed “The Nest,” the school’s high-volume learning commons and library were designed to emulate a tree house and act as a central point for the facility. Adjacent to the learning commons are classrooms, additional flex space, and focus rooms with movable walls that allow teachers to scale learning environments outside of the classroom and create greater adaptability for learning of all types. The facility also features curtain walls to allow for natural light.
