Architecture billings begin to stabilize in June

AIA’s Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score for June was 40.0 compared to 32.0 in May. “While business conditions remained soft at firms across the country, those with a multifamily residential specialization saw the most positive signs,” said AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker, PhD, Hon. AIA. “Unfortunately, conditions at firms with a commercial/industrial specialization are likely to remain weak for an extended period of time, until hospitality, office and retail facilities can fully reopen, and design demand for this space begins to increase.”

Guardian Glass launches new coater in Czestochowa, Poland

Guardian Glass started full production on a technologically advanced new glass coater, July 6, at its second facility in Czestochowa, Poland. The company says the state-of-the-art coater uses advanced technology for turning standard float glass into high performance, value-added glass. It will enable the plant to expand production of low-emissivity (low-E), solar control glass products for residential (Guardian ClimaGuard®) and commercial (Guardian SunGuard®) applications.

SVA Architects receives seven PCBC Gold Nugget honors

Demonstrating its commitment to community for an array of design types, SVA Architects, Inc. announced last week that it has earned six 2020 Gold Nugget Awards of Merit and a Judge’s Special Award. Typically, the awards ceremony is part of the annual PCBC® conference and trade show (formerly known as the Pacific Coast Builders Conference), which was cancelled this year due to COVID.  The Gold Nugget Awards will instead be a virtual event on July 24, with the awards presentation beginning at 5 p.m.
