World Architecture Festival goes virtual in December, returning as live event in June 2021

The World Architecture Festival announces the launch of WAFVirtual from 30 November – 4 December 2020, where the worldwide architectural community can engage in a week of live content, special prizes, talks, panel discussions and networking opportunities with peers and our WAF partners. Headline speakers will include Sir Peter Cook, Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang and Ben van Berkel of UNStudio.

World’s most eye-catching buildings shortlisted for architecture prize

Major world architects shortlisted for this year’s World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards include Zaha Hadid Architects, Heatherwick Studio, Bjarke Ingels Group, Rafael Viñoly Architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Grimshaw and White Arkitekter. In Pictures: The future projects tackling climate change and setting the agenda in sustainable design

Amongst the Future Project Shortlist in the twelfth edition of the World Architecture Festival are a number of schemes designed to play a major role in creating a more sustainable future. These include a tower which uses algae to produce clean air, to tackle the vast dust cloud which plagues Beijing; repurposed oil tanks creating a new eco-park to restore destroyed habitats in Brooklyn; affordable modular water dwellings for Bergen in response to growing risks of flooding; a surge protection system to counter rising sea levels in Houston; the first energy positive airport city in the world for Oslo; and a residential community incorporating a large forest ecosystem reconnecting people with nature in Samutprakarn.

World Architecture Festival call for entries for The 2019 Architecture Drawing Prize

In the spirit of many great architects of the past, from Palladio and John Soane to Le Corbusier and Cedric Price, World Architecture Festival’s The Architecture Drawing Prize is an ideal platform for reflecting on and exploring how drawing continues to advance the art of architecture today. It embraces the creative use of digital tools and digitally produced renderings, while recognizing the enduring importance of hand drawing. The organizers invite entries of all types and forms: from technical or construction drawings to cutaway or perspective views – and anything in between. This year also sees the introduction of a new category: the detail drawing, to support entries by architects with a passion for working details.

World Architecture Festival and INSIDE 2018 celebrates another successful year in its eleventh edition

The 2018 World Architecture Festival (WAF) enjoyed a 10% year-on-year increase in the number of international architects coming together from 28-30 November in Amsterdam to celebrate excellence in the profession. More than 530 shortlisted projects in the annual WAF awards were presented live by architectural practices from around the world and judged during the event. This year, women made up at least 40% of award judges. Some of the super jury judges included Nathalie de Vries, Lesley Lokko and Li Xiadong.

Architects and designers address the world’s most pressing ecological and societal challenges as part of WAFX 2018

World Architecture Festival (WAF) last month revealed the winners of ten WAFX prizes, supported by WAF sponsor GreenCoat®. The prizes are awarded to future projects that identify key ecological and societal challenges which architects are actively seeking to address over the next ten years. These challenges span diverse topic areas including climate change, energy saving and carbon emissions, water wastage and shortage, ageing populations and health issues, reusable materials, smart cities, building technology, cultural identity, ethics and power and justice.

World Architecture Festival Reveals Winner of Inaugural Water Research Prize

World Architecture Festival (WAF) last month revealed the 2018 winner of its inaugural Water Research Prize, supported by WAF founder partner GROHE: an innovative, community led water management system, designed by a team of students from Pontificia Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) which captures, stores, and treats rainwater and inserts it into pre-existing water networks.
