Delos™, a wellness real estate and technology firm, today announced a strategic alliance with preeminent full-service construction services provider Structure Tone to accelerate integration of health and well-being in the built environment. The partnership will advance Delos’ mission to transform indoor environments into spaces that help nurture, sustain and promote human health and well-being through Structure Tone’s global network of construction management professionals and sustainability-focused projects.
As part of the alliance, Structure Tone will professionally accredit 150 employees through the WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP™) program, a credential signifying advanced knowledge of health and well-being in the built environment and specialization in the WELL Building Standard™ (WELL), within the next three years. Accredited Structure Tone employees will be able to provide clients with professional qualified support to realize the potential positive health impacts of WELL, and the company will also incorporate WELL Certified™ “RFP bids” for their clients as an option on all projects going forward. This, combined with Structure Tone’s comprehensive knowledge of construction costs in the national and international markets, will help analyze clients’ potential return on investment if pursuing WELL for their built environment, positioning Structure Tone as a market leader in providing WELL Certified Interior Construction services.
“Structure Tone is internationally renowned for its ingenuity in the construction space,” said Delos Founder and CEO Paul Scialla. “Our partnership will be an important step towards integrating health and wellness into the built environment globally.”
Structure Tone is also pursuing WELL Certification for its recently opened New York City headquarters, and is working with Delos to build out Delos’ new global corporate headquarters in New York City’s Meatpacking District, which will pursue WELL and LEED platinum certification. The company will also become a founding member of the Well Living Lab™, a collaboration between Delos and Mayo Clinic, and the world’s first human-centered research lab dedicated to understanding the interaction between health and well-being and indoor environments.
“The built environment impacts both human and environmental health,” said Bob Mullen, Structure Tone CEO. “WELL and the innovative work done by Delos provide a science-based framework that we and our clients can use to show developers, landlords, tenants and employees the value of incorporating preventative medical intentions in the places we live, work and play.”
Pioneered by Delos and administered by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI), WELL is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features that impact human health and well-being in the built environment. It marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based medical and scientific research – harnessing the built environment as a vehicle to support human health and well-being. WELL Certified spaces can help create a built environment that improves the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep patterns and performance of its occupants.
Third-party certification for WELL is provided through IWBI’s collaboration with Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), the same organization that administers LEED certification. WELL works harmoniously with LEED and the Living Building Challenge, and is expanding alignment with other international leading green building systems like Three Star, Green Star and BREEAM. To date, WELL has enrolled 57 million square feet of over 270 building projects in 23 countries.
