Leader of Shepley Bulfinch’s Lens studio tapped for expertise, innovation in healthcare design
BOSTON – December 11, 2017 – Lens, a creative consulting studio of national architecture firm Shepley Bulfinch focused on helping organizations improve performance through innovation, consensus and engagement, announced today that Principal Strategist Lauren Janney, EDAC, LEED AP has joined the Emergency Medicine Advisory Board at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) for a three-year term beginning October 2017.
The board provides advice to support the expansion of an improved patient- and family-centered emergency medicine department and the delivery of high-quality, personalized and efficient care at BWH. For more than a decade, Lauren has focused her career on helping organizations leverage data analytics, visual thinking, service design thinking and implementation science to drive innovation in healthcare delivery. As the studio leader for Lens, she helps teams create innovative new service lines, build meaningful experiences and increase collaboration among multidisciplinary teams by engaging frontline staff in the design process.
Lauren was invited to join the Emergency Medicine Advisory Board at BWH because of her experience in designing healthcare spaces, including emergency rooms. Comprised of influential and esteemed individuals, members of the Emergency Medicine Advisory Board are committed to advancing the hospital’s strategic priorities in emergency medicine at BWH. They provide feedback to Michael VanRooyen, MD, MPH, Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and his faculty on current and new initiatives and serve as ambassadors to the community. With her history of innovation at Lens and Shepley Bulfinch, Lauren is a natural fit for the Emergency Medicine Advisory Board, said Susan Andrews, assistant vice president of development at BWH.
Lauren not only leads Lens, she was instrumental in its creation. With the ability to see beyond traditional architecture solutions, the Lens team of designers and strategists help healthcare organizations break down typical assumptions in care delivery to increase patient population, recruit and retain talented staff and improve outcomes.
In addition to the Emergency Medicine Advisory Board at BWH, Lauren has brought design thinking to leading healthcare organizations across the country, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Yale New Haven Health System, Partners HealthCare and Mayo Clinic. She sits on the marketing committee for the New England Society for Healthcare Strategy (NESHS) and is a core team member at the Lean Construction Institute’s New England chapter. She is the first design practitioner to complete the advanced Lean training certificate program at Virginia Mason Institute. Lauren holds a degree in industrial design with a concentration in healthcare from the University of Kansas, School of Architecture Design and Planning. She will receive a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in healthcare from George Washington University in 2017.
