DENVER, COLORADO— As a foray into the Higher Education and Science and Technology communities, Perkins+Will’s Denver studio announced last week the addition of Christopher Kleingartner, who will help lead the firm’s emerging local Science and Technology practice. Kleingartner’s onboarding comes alongside the firm’s recent project win of the Colorado School of Mines Subsurface Frontiers Building.
Christopher Kleingartner, AIA, LEED AP, is a Senior Associate Architect with over 19 years of experience within the Science and Technology field. His distinguished resume includes a wide range of national projects in the Science and Technology, Higher Education, Healthcare and Corporate practice areas. His notable work can be seen at premier Higher Education institutions such as The University of Colorado – Boulder, UC Health, Colorado School of Mines, and The University of Colorado – Colorado Springs; in addition to a significant list of national academic, corporate and federal research environments. Christopher brings an interdisciplinary design approach to his new role with the goal to grow Perkins+Will’s Denver practice beyond its renowned Sports, Recreation and Entertainment expertise and into the regional Science and Technology sector.
The new Colorado School of Mines Subsurface Frontiers Building will support the collaboration between The Colorado School of Mines (Mines) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). As inter-agency research programs have evolved, both institutions have expressed the desire to be co-located. By partnering on this new, interdisciplinary research facility, the academic and research-focused building will support the mission of both Mines and USGS — to revolutionize Earth Science in the 21st century — and to serve as the home for both organizations’ mineral exploration and subsurface mineral economics programs.
Perkins+Will has been commissioned to develop a design that ensures the relocation and shared space will provide unique national resources that encourage collaborative efforts in the application of geoscience to solve real-world problems. These include fostering the discovery of sustainable sources of energy, an expansion of potential mineral supplies, and strategies to balance energy, water, and climate for a more sustainable future.
