After seeing consecutive months of contracting demand for the first time in four years, the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) saw a modest increase demand for design services.  As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate nine to twelve-month lead time between architecture billings and construction spending.

October construction starts recede 4 percent

New construction starts in October decreased 4% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $678.9 billion, settling back from the elevated amount that was reported in September, according to Dodge Data & Analytics.

Erdy McHenry named Architecture Firm of the Year

Erdy McHenry Architecture, a firm known for innovative solutions-based design approach, has won the 2016 Firm of the Year Award, the highest award given to a design firm by the American Institute of Architects Pennsylvania Chapter.  They were honored for being “a principle force in consistently producing distinguished architecture.”

Krug receives President’s Award for climate change efforts

A. Stevens Krug, AIA, LEED AP, a West Chester architect well-known for his work in sustainable design, received the President’s Award from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Institute of Architects earlier this month. The award was presented to Krug by Elizabeth Masters, AIA PA President, at the annual awards ceremony at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts on November 10th.

Mahesh Ramanujam named U.S. Green Building Council President & CEO

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Board of Directors announced today that Mahesh Ramanujam has completed the transition into his new role as president and CEO of USGBC, effective Nov. 4, 2016. He will also serve as president and CEO of USGBC’s sister organization, Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). Formerly USGBC’s COO, Ramanujam takes the reins from Rick Fedrizzi, USGBC’s founding chair, who had previously announced plans to leave the organization toward the end of 2016.
