The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association (SCMA) recently published new Cypress Siding Installation Guidelines. The updated resource—available as a 12-page guide or as quick-reference sheets—provides detailed information on what to know before getting started on a cypress siding project and how to properly install various patterns, rainscreen application, and corner treatments.

SCMA publishes new Cypress Siding Installation Guidelines

“The updated Cypress Siding Installation Guidelines were developed in response to common questions that came in through our website at CypressInfo.org, as well as to address advances in construction methods and technology,” says Zack Rickman, president of the SCMA.

The new guide details how to install various vertical and horizontal siding patterns, and delves into how to install rainscreen, which is becoming a popular alternative to traditional cladding methods. In a rainscreen application, an air space is created between the siding boards and wall structure—allowing for efficient water drainage and alleviating potential moisture concerns.

“As a trusted source of information for design professionals, contractors, and homeowners, the SCMA’s goal is to equip professionals and do-it-yourselfers with current practices and proper techniques to set them up for a successful siding project,” Rickman says. “As always, the SCMA recommends following local and national building code requirements, as well as consulting local building professionals.”
