New AAMA document delivers design guidelines for exterior shading devices

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) has released a new technical information report providing design considerations for exterior shading devices such as aluminum sun shades, glass awnings, deep snap on covers and louvered shading devices with outriggers. AAMA TIR-A16-19, “Design of Exterior Shading Devices,” was developed to offer design considerations for manufacturers, architects and other members of the design team, as well as present important information for those responsible for facilities maintenance.

AAMA advocates on industry’s behalf at recent International Code Council Committee Action Hearings

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) worked on behalf of its members during International Code Council (ICC) Committee Action Hearings (CAH) April 28-May 8 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. AAMA represented its members, working with other industry groups and interested individuals to take positive action on behalf of the fenestration industry.” AAMA was able to earn committee approval on a number of proposals which had failed to earn approval in previous code cycles,” said Kathy Krafka Harkema, AAMA Codes and Regulatory Affairs Manager. “Earning committee approval on code proposals is an important step in the ICC code development process. The next hurdle AAMA will work to clear is public comment hearing approval.”

Those interested in becoming accredited instructors for the InstallationMasters New Construction Program are encouraged to contact the association now so as many schedules as possible may be accommodated.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) announced future 2019 and 2020 conference dates and locations, currently available on the AAMA Events web page. Early bird registration is now open for February’s AAMA 2019 Annual Conference in Indian Wells (Palm Springs), California, but AAMA events’ sites and dates for the rest of 2019 and into 2020 are now also available.

AAMA and World Vision fill 500 backpacks with supplies for in-need children

During the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) 2018 National Fall Conference, volunteers filled backpacks with school supplies to benefit children at a local Title I elementary school in Tucson, Arizona. A total of 500 backpacks were filled and distributed during the event. This build was coordinated in partnership with World Vision, a humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities to help them reach their full potential. World Vision does this by tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice.
