FGIA transitions Summer Conference to virtual event

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) will hold its Summer Conference virtually due to the spread of COVID-19 and requests by government leadership to shelter-in-place. This event, previously intended to be held in Chicago, IL, will be hosted on Zoom for the convenience of participants. The event dates remain largely unchanged with the conference taking place Tuesday, June 23 through Thursday, June 25. Registration for the virtual Summer Conference will open the week of May 4.

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) Annual Conference held last week in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida featured an introduction to the 2020 Board of Directors. Since FGIA is the result of having combined the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) as of the first of this year, the FGIA Board of Directors includes representatives who actively served in leadership roles within either of the separate associations.

FGIA releases new Surface Temperature Assessment for Condensation Evaluation of Exterior Wall Systems

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has developed a new document providing a standard procedure for the measurement of surface temperatures to be used in the condensation evaluation of exterior walls under laboratory conditions. “AAMA 501.9 is another optional test that can be performed in conjunction with a project specific curtain wall mock-up,” said Greg McKenna (Kawneer), vice chair of the Wall Mock-up Condensation Evaluation Work Group. “It uses a similar test apparatus to that used in AAMA 501.5, ‘Test Method for Thermal Cycling of Exterior Walls.'”

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has updated AAMA GDSG-1, Design Guide for Sloped Glazing and Skylights, outlining the considerations necessary for choosing proper glass for non-residential skylight and sloped glazing applications based on the best industry practices and technology, as well as describes the minimum requirements for sloped glazing as specified in the International Building Code (IBC).

Announcing the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) have officially combined into one organization with the new name, Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA). After a July 2019 vote by both bodies to unify, the two organizations have come together as of Jan. 1, 2020.

The FenestrationMasters program provides training content based on consensus based AAMA standards. Version 2.0 includes updated document references, incorporating new information from any documents that have been updated and/or published since the program launched, such as the latest version of the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS-17) and AAMA PSSG-19, “Selection and Application Guide for Plastic Glazed Skylights and Sloped Glazing.”
