The U.S. Green Building Council and Mayor Muriel Bowser will be showcasing partnered research on smart surface technologies focusing on low-income urban areas in American cities: El Paso, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. The report, Delivering Urban Resilience, is a major breakthrough in understanding how cities can become more resilient, healthier and wealthier while slowing climate change. Authored by Capital-E, the report is the result of more than two years of collaborative research and analysis in partnership with organizations including the U.S. Green Building Council, the National League of Cities, the American Institute of Architects, the National Housing Trust, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the cities of EL Paso, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.

GreenCircle Certified, LLC’s (GreenCircle) Certified Environmental Facts (CEF) multi-attribute label for flooring products has been recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Program as a recommended ecolabel for sustainable federal purchasing. Today, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) released the annual list of the Top 10 States for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the world’s most widely used green building rating system. The list ranks states in terms of certified square feet per resident in 2017. The list draws attention to states throughout America that are making significant strides in sustainable design, construction and transformation at the building level and opens up conversations around community and city-level accomplishments in sustainable development. LEED-certified spaces use less energy and water, save money for families, businesses and taxpayers, reduce carbon emissions and create a healthier environment for occupants and the community at large.

Dow and the U.S. Green Building Council Work Together to Support Sustainable Cities and Promote Energy Efficiency

The latest data indicate that buildings are currently responsible for about one-third of global energy consumption, and about 30 percent of global energy-related CO2 emissions and 20 percent of total CO2 emissions. In an effort to reduce these emissions, Dow and USGBC will collectively advise two cities or communities to help in achieving LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certification.
