Rebranded site features new content on glass color, cost considerations and surface orientation for low-e glasses
PITTSBURGH – Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) Wednesday announced that it has launched the online Vitro Glass Education Center, which previously operated as the PPG Glass Education Center, and added three new topics to the site. The new topics include:
- How to Read Color in Glass – This guide details key glass color measurement systems and related American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards with recommendations on how to properly evaluate architectural glass samples for color accuracy.
- Optimal Low-E Coating Placement for Double- and Triple-Glazed Insulating Glass Units (IGUs) – This presentation uses an infographic and text to explain proper surface orientation for low-e coatings on double-glazed and triple-glazed IGUs to optimize performance. The differences between passive and solar control, low-e glasses and how they impact surface orientation also are discussed.
- Cost Considerations in Specifying Vitro Architectural Glass – This article highlights the relatively minor cost associated with specifying high-performance Vitro Glass products in relation to total curtain wall fabrication costs. A separate chart and illustration show how an investment in premium-quality products such as Solarban® solar control, low-e glass can be repaid through improved solar and thermal performance, increased occupant comfort and reduced HVAC costs.
Glenn T. Miner, director of construction, Vitro Architectural Glass, said the Vitro Glass Education Center was created to help architects and designers specify glass more effectively. “With the acquisition of PPG Glass, Vitro Architectural Glass now has more than two centuries of combined knowledge about the appearance, performance, fabrication and installation of architectural glass. Building designers can use the Vitro Glass Education Center to leverage that knowledge at any time to find the best glass solutions for their customers and projects.”
Launched in 2013, the Vitro Glass Education Center is a continuously expanding library of technical information that offers objective, user-focused information about designing, specifying and building with glass for architects, specifiers, students and building industry professionals. Content is updated regularly based on the questions most frequently asked of Vitro Glass sales representatives, fielded by the call center and sent to the Vitro Architectural Glass website.
