ACUITY low-iron glass to debut, durable SUNGATE 700 low-e glass available for preview

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 6, 2018 – Vitro Architectural Glass will debut samples of Acuity™ glass low-iron glass, preview the launch of durable Sungate® 700 passive low-emissivity (low-e) glass, and highlight the recent start-up of its jumbo coater, at GlassBuild America 2018 in Las Vegas, Sept. 12-14.

Glenn T. Miner, director of construction, Vitro Architectural Glass, said Acuity glass is formulated to eliminate the green cast inherent to conventional glass, while offering architects a competitively priced upgrade. “Acuity glass expands the performance and appearance options available to architects, designers and building owners without compromising project budgets. The result is a crisper, cleaner, clearer look for vision glass applications, and truer color rendition for more vivid spandrel glass applications,” he explained.

Visitors to the Vitro Glass booth will be able to view samples of Acuity glass with popular Solarban® 60 solar control low-e glass. When Acuity glass begins production, architects will have the option to unite it in insulating glass units (IGUs) with Solarban 67, Solarban 70XL, Solarban 90 and Solarban R100 glasses to optimize solar control performance.

Vitro Glass also will preview Sungate 700 glass at GlassBuild America. This versatile product features an exceptionally durable magnetron sputtered vacuum deposition (MSVD) coating that makes it ideal for multiple applications, including:

  • As an interior-facing coating on double- or triple-pane IGU with Solarban-coated low-e glass on the second surface;
  • As a traditional high-performance passive low-e coating on the third (#3) surface of a double-pane IGU;
  • As an interior-facing coating, with or without the use of an additional solar control low-e coating, in laminated monolithic applications; and
  • As a traditional third-surface (#3) coating paired with tinted or reflective glasses by Vitro Glass.

Vitro Glass experts will be available to discuss how to optimize Sungate 700 glass to achieve specific project requirements such as increased insulating performance (u-value) or increased heat gain. The Vitro Glass booth also will feature information about the jumbo magnetron sputtered vacuum deposition (MSVD) coater that Vitro Glass recently started up in Wichita Falls, Texas. The new coater enables Vitro Glass to produce jumbo coated glass in sizes up to 130 inches by 204 inches, which will increase up to 130 by 236 inches in 2019.

Complementary products manufactured by Vitro Glass marketing partners will be on display, including patterned low-e Walker Textures® AviProtek® E bird-safe glass by Walker Glass and decorative and spandrel glasses finished with OPACI-COAT 300® by ICD High Performance Coatings.
