Wheeler Kearns Architects break ground on the Great Lakes Academy expansion in Chicago

Wheeler Kearns Architects has commenced construction on its 130,000 square foot expansion of Great Lakes Academy, a K-8 charter school in South Chicago, which will more than double the size of the school.
The ambitious project entails connecting its current location — a three-story brick masonry building built in 1911 — to the neighboring one — a former Catholic Church built in 1952 — through a one-story glass link.

Resilient masterplan in Los Angeles will create human-scaled mixed-use neighborhood

Continuum Partners and Los Angeles Cold Storage have submitted a development application with the City of Los Angeles to reimagine a Downtown gateway site. The project, dubbed Fourth & Central, calls for 1,521 residential units, 401,000 square feet of creative office space, 93,000 square feet of retail/restaurant use, and a 68-room hotel. The project’s master plan and project architecture are by Los Angeles-based Studio One Eleven. Two marquee buildings are designed by David Adjaye.

For the design of a new prominent corporate office headquarters located in Little Rock, Arkansas, Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects utilized Banker Wire’s SZ-4 wire mesh pattern—in a stainless steel and brass mixed alloy—to create a striking ceiling installation. Bridging two separate, glass-clad office spaces linked by a five-story, atrium-like structure, the wire mesh-fabricated ceiling visually anchors the interior as a key focal point.

Stantec-designed Adela at MiMo Bay residential building is complete

Stantec announces the completion of the new five-story Adela at MiMo Bay apartments located next to Legion Memorial Park in Miami’s Upper Eastside. The project features 236 residential units, pool deck with panoramic views of Biscayne Bay, a 370-space parking garage, and a new 15,000 square-foot American Legion Post 29 facility. Stantec provided architecture, structural engineering, MEP engineering, and interior design services for the project.

Anthem Technology Center’s new LEED Silver-certified, 21-story, Class A, build-to-suit office tower in Midtown, Atlanta, serves as a hub for approximately 3,000 professionals. Developed by Portman Holdings, the building’s exterior was designed by Portman Architects and its interiors by Nelson Architects. The design team selected Rockfon ceiling systems as the basis of design for the majority of Anthem’s office ceilings.

Central Roofing Company helped build the new McQuinn Horticulture and Operations Headquarters in Minnesota. They also rebuilt the metal roofs on the historic Red Barn and silo within the arboretum. Designed by DLR Group of Minneapolis, the new 11,000+ square foot headquarters structure on Three-Mile Drive houses the horticulture, curatorial and gardening staffs, plus a drive-through maintenance shop.
