Clark Construction breaks ground on Savannah Convention Center expansion

Clark Construction Group joined Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, representatives from the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority (SGCCA), and city and state leaders last week to celebrate the start of construction on the much-anticipated Savannah Convention Center Expansion project. The groundbreaking marks a pivotal milestone in the project’s history, which began in 2017, when the Georgia General Assembly first approved the initial funding to begin design efforts in concert with Atlanta-based Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates (tvsdesign) and Savannah-based Hanson Architects –  the two firms that designed the original Convention Center.

Adolfson & Peterson Construction and Potter County break ground on new District Courts Building

Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), a national construction management firm and general contractor, HOK Group Inc., a global architecture/engineering firm, and Potter County broke ground on the new District Courts Building in Amarillo, Texas. Designed by HOK, the five-story, 158,250-square-foot replacement building will include courtrooms, a jury assembly, county offices, courtroom in-custody holding and records storage. The new building will also feature security enhancements including separate sheriff’s access with a vehicle sally port for security and safety, as well as separate access for judges and other elected officials.

KTGY Architecture + Planning has announced groundbreakings for a series of pioneering modular developments with the potential to transform housing for the chronically homeless. Working with the designer/builder team Hope Street Development Group – which also includes HBG Construction Corp and Aedis Real Estate Group – KTGY assists in alleviating Los Angeles’ homeless crisis using advanced, highly replicable modular design. The set of three buildings, with more to come, may be the largest modular housing series in Los Angeles.

Opened on March 12, 2021, the new Elmer Buchta Entrepreneurship & Technology Center (EBETC) in Pike County, Indiana, revitalizes and supports the community’s educational and employment opportunities. Welcoming everyone to the EBETC’s modern business incubator, the cheerful multi-colored exterior designed by Hafer features a metal rainscreen wall panel system manufactured John W. McDougall Company Inc. Linetec finished the panels using four different colors: Bone White, Cityscape Gray, a darker Regal Blue and a lighter Siam Blue. All 629 panels were installed by Midwest Roofing-Sheet Metal in coordination with general contractor Jasper Lumber Co., Inc.

February sees further decline in national construction starts

Total construction starts fell 2% in February to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $797.3 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. Nonbuilding construction starts posted a solid gain after rebounding from a weak January, however, residential and nonresidential building starts declined, leading to a pullback in overall activity.
