With more than 19 years of experience as a research scientist, Wing brings a unique perspective to TRIA’s lab planning, programming, and design team. She joins core team members, Principal Jeannie Thacker, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, and Director of Programming and Planning Jane Kepros, LEED Green Associate, in providing TRIA’s clients with invaluable insight into the creation of scientist-designed labs and research spaces that support end-users’ optimal workflow in the lab.

During production of Bio-Care, Lapitec incorporates a special form of titanium dioxide (TiO2). Titanium dioxide acts as a catalyst to degrade organic matter through oxidation as a result of a reaction to natural sunlight or artificial lighting (photocatalysis). It adds super hydrophilic properties to Lapitec, promoting a washing effect to remove polluting particles from the surface. Due to this important feature, Lapitec is able to be defined as “self-cleaning”.

Tropicalia was designed by Coldefy & Associates as a “harmonious haven”, seamlessly integrated into the local environment with an original feature: the project is self-sufficient – producing energy through the use of a double dome, creating a room in which the air is heated through a greenhouse effect. The absence of load-bearing pillars and the presence of a peripheral green wall enhance this cocoon-like atmosphere. The architecture will blend in with the scenery: the building is set partially in the ground, thus seemingly lowering its height and impact. Tropicalia will appear to rise like a small hill within the landscape.
