Construction workers speak out: Fear of being left behind by Congress as COVID-19 grinds industry to a halt

“Millions of construction workers and their families are getting totally wiped out, and Congress is doing very little about it,” fumed Ken Rigmaiden, General President of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), which represents more than a hundred thousand building trade workers. “If construction workers don’t work, they don’t get paid. They can’t work remotely. They don’t receive furloughs, or paid leave. But not one Congressional COVID-19 bill grants real relief to this vulnerable workforce.”

Denver International Airport Great Hall Project resumes construction

In alignment with its 25th anniversary, Denver International Airport (DEN) recently announced that construction has recommenced on the Great Hall Project, with Stantec serving as lead designer. The work will include a renovation of the airport’s Jeppesen Terminal to create an airport for the future with enhanced safety and security, a more intuitive passenger flow, and increased capacity to accommodate continued growth. The KAI Build/HBD Construction, Inc. team has completed one of the first ground-up Marriott select service hotels in Downtown St. Louis in decades – Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. St. Louis-based Equis Hotels was the developer on the $20 million hotel and parking garage project with Chiodini Architects of St. Louis providing its design and Peak Construction Group serving as the construction manager. KAI Build/HBD Construction served as the general contractor.
