APA publishes updated Engineered Wood Construction Guide

APA – The Engineered Wood Association announced in January that the updated APA Engineered Wood Construction Guide, Form E30, is now available on APA’s website. The 100-page guide features information on engineered wood products and recommendations for their use in a wide range of applications in residential and commercial construction. It includes illustrations and information on typical specifications for engineered wood products and design recommendations for floor, wall and roof systems, diaphragms, shear walls, fire-rated systems and finishing methods.

Arc’teryx’s flagship store in Vancouver features zinc panel façade inspired by nearby mountains

Several factors influenced the design of the new Arc’teryx flagship store in Vancouver, British Columbia, and all led to the prominent use of zinc on the exterior. “I knew I wanted to use metal and zinc caught my attention early on” said Ehsan Vali, Unison’s lead designer on the project. “I discovered that the nearby mountains contain significant deposits of both zinc and copper. I came across different pictures of actual raw zinc and noticed the very linear, angular, clear lines with a bit of sheen. We quickly settled on RHEINZINK as the right material to deliver the cool, modern aesthetic to complement the brand.”

Sherwin-Williams plans to build new global headquarters in downtown Cleveland

Preliminary plans call for Sherwin-Williams to invest a minimum of $600 million to build both facilities. The planned new global headquarters would be in downtown Cleveland just west of Public Square between Saint Clair Avenue and Superior Avenue and would be approximately 1,000,000 square feet. The planned new R&D center would be in Brecksville, conveniently located off I-77 at Miller Road and Brecksville Road. The R&D center would serve as the corporate anchor for a new mixed-use development project and would be approximately 500,000 square feet.

Architecture Design Collaborative breaks ground on affordable apartment community in Fontana, Calif.
