Young architects worldwide create solutions for urbanization in the “City Above the City” competition

The “City Above the City” challenged architects and students of architecture from around the world to push the boundaries of modern wood building design in the urban environment. Entrants were asked to select a centrally-located building in one of the world’s most populated cities and develop an innovative wood design solution that adds density through additional floor area. Known buildings, especially buildings under threat of demolition were encouraged as sites for revitalization, new development and innovation.

Erdy McHenry Architecture, a firm known for innovative solutions-based design approach, has won the 2016 Firm of the Year Award, the highest award given to a design firm by the American Institute of Architects Pennsylvania Chapter.  They were honored for being “a principle force in consistently producing distinguished architecture.”

Krug receives President’s Award for climate change efforts

A. Stevens Krug, AIA, LEED AP, a West Chester architect well-known for his work in sustainable design, received the President’s Award from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Institute of Architects earlier this month. The award was presented to Krug by Elizabeth Masters, AIA PA President, at the annual awards ceremony at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts on November 10th.

MSR-Designed housing complex The Rose receives Urban Land Institute Jack Kemp Award

ULI established the Jack Kemp Excellence in Affordable and Workforce Housing Award in 2008, naming the award in memory of Jack Kemp, former secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and ULI Terwilliger Center national advisory board member. The award is given annually to affordable and workforce housing developments that represent outstanding achievements in several areas, including affordability, innovative financing and building technologies, proximity to employment centers and transportation hubs, quality of design, involvement of public/private partnerships, and replicability of the development, among other criteria.
