Urban Land Institute honors FlatironCity

ATLANTA, Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — The restoration of Downtown Atlanta’s Flatiron Office Building, dubbed FlatironCity, has been awarded the Project of the Year 2017 from the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Built in 1897, the 120-year old Flatiron is Atlanta’s oldest standing skyscraper that has been reinvigorated into innovative office space.

Lucror Resources’ Arun Nijhawan, the developer of FlatironCity, said, “We are honored and humbled to receive the recognition of our peers for our efforts in transforming the Flatiron Offices. FlatironCity attracts both entrepreneurs and corporations in a collaborative environment to create a unique experience….it is a melting pot in the heart of a vibrant Downtown.”

The project was made possible through a public-private partnership, which includes Atlanta’s Economic Development Authority, Invest Atlanta, and J.P. Morgan Chase, who worked with Lucror Resources to assemble a complex capital structure that made restoring the historic building financially viable. Katie Bazemore of digital media company, Launch, commented, “No others can claim to be the oldest standing skyscraper- with an interior that feels ultra modern and alive.”

The building currently houses a diverse tenant base including the Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI), an incubator for women founded companies and B2B start-ups who are increasing economic productivity in the airlines, logistics, chemical/refinery, digital advertising and music industries.

Fenn Bailey, co-founder of Volantio, a revenue optimization startup for the airline industry, says of his experience, “FlatironCity is the perfect home that has grown with us as we’ve grown, since we’ve expanded from shared space to our own office. We love being a part of the community and attending Flatiron events.”

The award is part of the annual Development of Excellence awards from the Urban Land Institute of Atlanta.
