Miami HEAT Sports Medicine Center resides on the campus of Doctors Hospital, also part of Baptist Health, and is the new hub for Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute, treating some of South Florida’s most talented athletes.
NELSON repositioned main lobby on the first level adjacent to a new canopy drop-off area complete with a dedicated valet space, and new branding and signage. The new space features 42 state-of-the-art exam rooms, updated staff lounges, clearly defined wayfinding and a centrally located parking garage with easy access to each level.

Each floor is dedicated to a different specialty with the fourth floor featuring outpatient surgeries. Shifting the traditional check-in model, each floor has their own registration to grant autonomy and to easily distinguish one clinic from another. In addition, each clinic has an assigned accent color creating an effective means for wayfinding.
Waiting rooms on every level feature modern aesthetics and mural walls with sports imagery, creating a dynamic environment for athletes of all ages. In addition, computers, cell phone charging stations and self-service coffee stands are conveniently located in each waiting area to offer a more hospitable and welcoming experience.

This open, brightly lit space provides individual quiet seating, family and group seating and workspace. A separate circulation area occurs on the opposite side of the exam pods, allowing staff and physicians to work without interfering with guest areas.
The Miami HEAT Sports Medicine Center opened to the public in October 2019. Services include treatment for a comprehensive range of conditions from common fractures and ligament tears, to complex orthopedic injuries and chronic conditions.
The Center will also be a clinical trial site for new orthopedic surgery methods including novel implants and genetically engineered cartilage, bone and revolutionary biologics. The revamped facility offers healthcare providers a dynamic setting to perform complex surgeries and procedures, all while keeping the patient experience, from diagnosis to treatment and recovery, at the forefront.
