Mule Creek Infill Complex, NAVFAC P229 Weapons Surveillance & Test Laboratory and Calibration Laboratory and UCI Mesa Court Student Housing Expansion

PASADENA, Calif., May 23, 2017 – Hensel Phelps was recognized with three regional design-build project/team awards at the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Western Pacific Region (WPR) 11th Annual Awards Banquet and 1st Annual Regional Conference at the Westin Hotel in Pasadena, California. The awards program showcases design-build best practices and celebrates the achievements of owners and design-build teams in five different award categories.

  • Northern California: The Hensel Phelps | HOK design-build team for the Mule Creek Infill Complex project was honored with a Merit Award for the excellent implementation of design-build techniques which exceeded the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s expectations.
  • Southern California: The Hensel Phelps | RJC Architects design-build team for the Naval Facilities Engineering Commanded (NAVFAC) P229 Weapons Surveillance & Test Laboratory and Calibration Laboratory project was honored with a Merit Award for outstanding execution of design-build procedures allowing the project to surpass NAVFAC’s expectations.
  • Southern California: The Hensel Phelps | Mithun design-build team for the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Mesa Court Student Housing Expansion project was honored with two awards — the Design Excellence Award for achieving UCI’s overall aesthetic and functional vision though outstanding design and Regional Award for exemplifying the principles of teamwork, innovation, and problem solving while breaking new ground in its approach and accomplishments.

The three Hensel Phelps projects receiving awards are located in the Northern and Southern California Districts and represent three different market sectors: correctional, higher education and federal.
