Stantec recently sponsored a research project to identify the impact biophilic design has on holistic wellbeing with Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, directly measuring physiological, emotional, and cognitive wellness. Our study results show that by leveraging these patterns of biophilia we can create a positive impact on people’s wellbeing. In total there are fourteen patterns broken out in three main categories that focus on nature in the space, nature of the space, and natural analogues. Many are easy to implement if programmed early into the design process and offer the ability to create truly immersive experiences.

CU Denver new City Heights Residence Hall celebrates official “topping out”

The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) reached a major milestone, as it celebrated its official “topping out” for its new City Heights Residence Hall and Learning Commons. The 182,000-square-foot residence hall, which will represent the first on-campus student housing complex for the university, will add approximately 555 beds to the center of the urban campus. The project is being delivered by the JE Dunn/Stantec design-build team.

The University of California, Davis (UC Davis) opened the first phase of The Green at West Village student housing project, adding more than 1,000 beds to the University’s West Village neighborhood. The Michaels Organization is working with Stantec, which is providing lead architectural, interiors, buildings engineering, and landscape architecture services for the project. CBG Building Company is the general contractor.

Akamai Technologies new global headquarters is designed to achieve both the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold certification and the International WELL Building Institute’s certification. The project team included: Boston Properties, Stantec (formerly ADD Inc.), Pickard Chilton, Turner Construction, Northstar Project & Real Estate Services, Acentech Incorporated, and Sasaki. Working closely with Acentech, Sasaki specified Rockfon’s acoustic ceiling systems, which were provided by Merrimack Building Supply and installed by Allan Construction.

New education center for Kenaitze Indian Tribe breaks ground

The Kenaitze Indian Tribe recently broke ground on its newest education center in Kenai, Alaska. The center focuses on the Tribal Council’s commitment to building a tribal-owned, culturally appropriate education campus that consolidates core educational components and programs in one state-of-the-art, central facility. Design of the educational center is being led by a local team of architects and engineers from the Anchorage office of Stantec. Blazy Construction is the general contractor.
