Top 10 states for LEED green building in 2020 show strong adoption by offices, schools and healthcare

The USGBC has released its annual list of the top 10 states for LEED green building with Massachusetts ranking first in the nation. LEED is the world’s most widely used green building program and was created by USGBC to set standards and define best practices for high-performing, healthy, green buildings. The top states in 2020 certified a remarkable 1,171 projects with more than 60% representing offices, education and healthcare facilities.

University of St. Thomas achieves top environmental rating for new residence hall

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded its highest environmental rating – the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification – to the University of St. Thomas’ Tommie East Residence Hall. The building is the first in the Midwest to certify platinum under the LEED v4 new construction rating system in its category, the sixth in the U.S. and seventh in the world. It marks another step in the university’s larger plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.

Registration opens for IMPACT 2020, Ed Begley Jr. announced as keynote

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), creators of the LEED green building rating system, announced that registration is now open for IMPACT 2020. The conference will be held May 5-6, 2020 at the LEED Platinum RiverCentre in St. Paul, Minnesota, and features a keynote from actor, environmentalist and green building enthusiast Ed Begley, Jr. The IMPACT conference is the largest green building conference and expo in the Midwest and attracts building professionals, sustainability leaders and change makers from across the region.

USGBC releases the top 10 states for LEED

As USGBC continues to advance green buildings, cities and communities through the adoption of LEED and the latest version of the rating system, LEED v4.1, the organization is also considering a future that is focused on a more regenerative approach. In November 2019 at the annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, USGBC introduced LEED Positive – a roadmap that will lay the foundation for a future of LEED that transitions away from strategies that only reduce harm and instead focus on those that help repair and restore.

New USGBC Timber Traceability LEED credit aids efforts to eliminate the use of illegal wood in buildings

Yesterday, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced the new USGBC Timber Traceability LEED pilot credit designed to increase transparency in timber supply chains and reduce the risk of illegally harvested wood entering the buildings industry supply chain. The development of the pilot credit was led by a team of timber legality, forestry and environmental representatives from organizations recognized for leading the fight against illegal logging, including the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
