UL and the Center for Active Design Launch a Revolutionary Partnership, Bringing Together Industry Leading Building and Product Health Certifications

UL, a global safety science leader, and the Center for Active Design (CfAD), operator of Fitwel, the world’s leading building certification system for health, today announced a partnership that will expand the market for healthier, more sustainable products and buildings globally. This alignment represents the first time two leading certification bodies are uniting to provide comprehensive resources on healthy buildings and products for the design and real estate industries. The initial focus is to increase the adoption of the Fitwel Certification System in China, while also providing architects, designers, and developers with more access to products with reduced risks to human health.

Winners of 10th Annual Marvin Architects Challenge Showcase Preeminent Architectural Design

The Marvin Family of Brands is announcing the winners of its 10th Marvin Architects Challenge – an annual design competition that recognizes inventive use of the company’s windows and doors in exceptional residential and commercial projects. Renowned architects Jane Frederick, FAIA, ASID; Matt Kreilich, FAIA; and Takashi Yanai, FAIA, served as judges for the competition and selected six winners from more than 220 submissions from across North America. The winning projects range in style from a modern residence in the remote woods of Wisconsin to the historic revitalization of a former department store in Alabama, and highlight how the strategic use of doors and windows can transform any space.

Architects stand ready to respond during hurricane season

Since 1972, AIA’s Disaster Assistance Program has provided volunteer and professional services to communities—both nationally and internationally—before and after disasters. As part of the program, AIA trains architects to assess the habitability of structures impacted by a disaster. AIA responds to disasters when the need overwhelms authorities having jurisdiction and they request AIA’s assistance. By inviting architects to assist local authorities, those affected can return to their homes and businesses more efficiently to begin the recovery process. Additionally, architects assist with other building and planning mitigation efforts.

Architects around the world convene in New York for the AIA Conference on Architecture

The AIA Conference on Architecture 2018 (A’18) is developed specifically for architects and will bring AIA’s Blueprint for Better campaign to life. Attendees will participate in cutting-edge education sessions that will provide insights into designing a smarter, safer and healthier built environment.
