Experts in their fields, PRISM’s contributing authors come from a wide spectrum of backgrounds in the architectural built environment — from building materials manufacturers, such as architectural coatings and curtain wall systems, to architects/engineers/consultants and materials specifiers. Akis has been involved in the manufacturing and application of industrial floor coatings for the past ten years. He runs learncoatings which is an online resource training professionals on the use of epoxy floors. He is also General Manager of Ktisis, a manufacturer of flooring and waterproofing coatings.

Ashley is Hoefer Wysocki’s lead professional engineer and sustainability manager. She earned her LEED AP at the outset of her professional practice and has a diverse background in sustainable engineering, construction, and design. As a champion of sustainability, Ashley continually raises the bar in regard to performance-driven sustainable design at Hoefer Wysocki, and is currently working as the LEED project administrator on 13 projects, all tracking for Silver certification or higher. She is in the process of attaining certification on her first LEED v4 project and is on the forefront of this new rating system and its requirements.

Benton Johnson is a senior structural engineer with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. He has been with SOM for over 10 years and has worked on a broad range of domestic and international projects. This work has included super-tall buildings, mixed-use developments, convention centers, hospitals, and single-family homes. His work also includes innovative research projects such as AMIE 1.0, a 3D printed demonstration building and the Timber Tower Research Project.

Blake is a passionate architect who specializes in designing and implementing stewardship (sustainability, wellness, and resiliency) for a variety of projects and industries. He brings a great deal of creative energy to his work, and he’s well-versed in Fitwel, WELL, and LEED certifications. Believing that every project presents an important stewardship opportunity, Blake works closely with clients and designers to develop beautiful, cost-effective, and user-focused strategies. Rather than applying stewardship concepts late in the process, Blake’s design approach intertwines stewardship and architectural concepts, realized through early visioning, charrettes, and identifying cost-sharing and offsetting opportunities. Blake is an internationally-published author and prolific speaker. He enjoys conducting original research and gaining insight into corporate social responsibility. He’s lectured at the Boston Architectural College, and in 2015, he was recognized as a 40 Under 40 by BD+C Magazine. Outside the office, he spends time training for marathons and traveling the world. He’s also an unapologetic metalhead and an aspiring novelist.

Carolyn Rickard-Brideau is a Partner and the Workplace Global Practice Leader at Little. With over 33 years in practice, she is known by her colleagues as a visionary, innovative and diversely talented leader. Driven by an infectious curiosity about the connection between architecture and the human body, Carol has spent the last 10 years studying, researching, writing articles and speaking at events across the country about the impact of building design on the health of its occupants. Capitalizing on this industry-leading knowledge, Carol has played a valuable role in educating the design industry on how space has a direct connection with our physical and mental fatigue, awareness, memory cognition, depression and cardiovascular/musculoskeletal health. Her expertise has been published in numerous major publications, including Health, Metropolis, Interiors & Sources and The Leader (CoreNet) magazines, as well as multiple Business Journals across the United States. Carol has also been an influential guest speaker for National Public Radio, TEDx Arlington, CRE Radio and industry events such as the 2017 AIA National Convention, IFMA’s World Workplace, NeoCon World’s Trade Fair and the Urban Land Institute’s Women’s Leadership Symposium.

Channing Beaudry leads the Global Research and Development Group for Sherwin-Williams’ Coil and Extrusion coatings division. With a dual degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and over 20 years of experience in the paint and coatings industry, Channing has led the development of a wide range of innovative coating systems across a number of industries including general industrial segments and building products. Channing works with architects and customers to understand their unique needs and develop coatings for metal building products that meet any aesthetic or specification while lasting long into the future.

Christine has been shaping places, processes and organizations nationally and internationally through her work as an architect, educator, and activist. Christine leads the urban design and planning practice at evolveEA where she helps communities envision urban regeneration strategies. Her projects integrate urban infrastructure with creative placemaking and are known for their rigorous yet engaging design processes that build community capacity. Recent projects such as the Centre Avenue Corridor Redevelopment Strategy and the Millvale Ecodistrict plan have been recognized by various organizations including the American Institute of Architects and the American Planning Association at the local, state, and national levels. Christine teaches architecture, landscape design and sustainability at Carnegie Mellon University. She supports organizations that promote design and the environment and currently serves as Chair of the Pittsburgh Planning Commission, President for the Green Building Alliance Board of Directors, and is a member of the Global Ecodistricts Protocol Advisory Committee.

She is a member of the PPG Global Color Styling Team that researches and forecasts colors for the architectural, automotive, aerospace, industrial and consumer products markets. John Starr, AIA, LEED AP, director of Lord Aeck Sargent’s Education and Arts & Culture practice areas, has 30 years of design and project management experience with a special emphasis on educational and institutional design. John is devoted to creating outstanding educational and cultural facilities with specialized communications, integrated technology and interactive learning environments. Throughout the last decade, he has focused on seamlessly integrating state-of-the-art technology into learning environments that are highly adaptable to developing instructional technologies. His leadership has contributed to Lord Aeck Sargent’s reputation as a pioneer in this field. John also speaks frequently on the subject of evolving approaches to learning environments at conferences across the country.
