New ACOUSTIBuilt™ Seamless Ceilings from Armstrong

ACOUSTIBuilt panels offer a smooth, non-directional, monolithic visual for the seamless appearance of a drywall ceiling but also effective acoustical performance in a space. The new ceiling is part of the Armstrong® Total Acoustics® portfolio, offering the combination of sound absorption and sound blocking in one panel. The company says the installed system achieves a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of up to 0.70, indicating it absorbs up to 70% of the sound that strikes it, and also has an extremely high Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC) up to 48, indicating its ability to ensure speech privacy by preventing sound from entering adjacent spaces.

PPG Duranar coatings give encore performance at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan

Modeled after London’s iconic Crystal Palace, the original Javits Center opened in 1986 and immediately gained status as the largest space frame structure in the world. In addition to incorporating a luminous glass and metal framework with brilliant views of the Hudson River and the city skyline, the groundbreaking project was characterized by the extensive use of black PPG Duranar coatings. ENCLOS, Keymark and PPG were selected to supply, design and install the building’s curtain wall components.

UL/CLEB seminar breaks down Canadian CSA A500 Building Guards Standard

Principal engineer Robert Jutras (UL/CLEB) hosted a seminar called, “The Canadian CSA A500 Building Guards Standard, Explained” during the 2019 Joint AAMA and IGMA Summer Conference. The CSA A500 Building Guards Standard was developed in response to stakeholders who saw the need for a standard for materials, design, construction, testing and performance of building guards, said Jutras. The standard is important because these protective barriers prevent accidental falls from one level to another.

“This third edition of ACI 562 provides all parties involved in a concrete repair project with a common and clearly defined set of requirements upon which to base its assessment, repair, and rehabilitation,” states Michael L. Acoustic guitar inspires SCB design of Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Tower in Nashville

Above the podium, a 37-story sleek glass tower rises, capturing views of the city and the Cumberland River for the building’s occupants. The fenestration and balcony composition continue the acoustic guitar design conceit; the tower elegantly recalls the fretted neck of the instrument. Amenity decks—one for hotel guests and one for residents—provide a private outdoor experience above the busy street. The project is targeting LEED Gold certification.
