WASHINGTON (March 6, 2019) – Innovative city building and successful leadership strategies will be front and center at the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) 2019 Spring Meeting, set for April 16-18 at the Music City Center in downtown Nashville. Headlining the impressive list of speakers will be Nashville leaders Robert Frist, Jr., chief executive officer of HealthStream; John Ingram, chairman of Ingram Industries; and Jay Turner, managing director of MarketStreet Enterprises, who will discuss Nashville’s evolution into one of the most popular investment and development markets in the nation; as well as renowned presidential historian and author Jon Meacham, who will discuss effective leadership.
ULI’s Spring Meeting is expected to draw nearly 3,000 of ULI’s most engaged members, including renowned industry experts from around the world offering insights on all aspects of real estate. Lessons learned from transformative development — including examples from Nashville — will be discussed within the context of urban challenges such as housing affordability, gentrification, social equity, technology advancements, and demographic shifts, all with a focus on the short- and long-term implications for cities.
The meeting’s real estate sessions are known for providing timely and relevant industry analyses, and for offering access to some of the nation’s most influential real estate leaders. Each day of the meeting will offer different highlights:
- Tuesday, April 16, will feature tours of the metro region’s most innovative developments led by those directly involved with the projects. Tours include urban manufacturing facilities; The Gulch neighborhood, the re-energized downtown; Historic Music Row; Cumberland Riverfront; Vanderbilt, Belmont, and Lipscomb university campuses; and affordable housing for local artists. - Wednesday, April 17, will feature several real estate sessions on a range of industry issues and trends, including:
Green and affordable housing development;- The real estate and economic forecast through 2021;
- Developing equitable cities;

- Agrihoods as community amenities;
- Using “prop tech” to create smart buildings and cities;
- Reviving the American Dream of homeownership; and
- Navigating Opportunity Zones
- Thursday, April 18, will focus on lessons from Nashville, including several real estate sessions held offsite that will explore the city’s approach to privately-owned public spaces; revitalizing the downtown core; transforming central neighborhoods; and building for inclusivity.
