APPA announced today its plans to create an American National Standard to help create uniform use of terms and definitions that affect facilities asset decision making.
The proposed APPA 1100: Facility Management Terms and Definitions, will establish a database of nationally recognized terms and definitions used within the facilities, building, or supporting infrastructure industries. This standard will be a compilation of facility management terms and definitions to be housed on the APPA International website. Areas of application for this standard include project delivery (planning, design, construction, and commissioning), maintenance and operations, energy, utilities, environmental stewardship, planning, design, and construction.
Potential stakeholders in the development of the standard would include owners of buildings, facilities, infrastructure, general site, and property, as well as those within the following asset management disciplines: architecture, building design and planning, construction, building/facilities management, operations and maintenance, energy management, users of assets, and capital needs planners.
As an ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer (ASD), APPA will utilize its Accredited Procedures for the Development of American National Standards, as approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), as its operating procedures when developing APPA 1100.
Stakeholders and parties with an interest in participating in the development of APPA 1100 should contact Billie Zidek at billie@appa.org.
