ASID Foundation to Award 2018 Transform Grants

Interior environments shape the experiences we have each day and have a resounding impact on our lives. In creating these environments, designers look to research to implement evidence-based design solutions. Through the seventh annual Transform Grants, the ASID Foundation (ASIDF) will continue its mission to benefit the health, safety, and welfare of the public by funding research projects that demonstrate the impact of design on the human experience. All are welcome to submit proposals through June 27, 2018.

Each year, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) bestows the title of Fellow and Honorary Fellow to individuals who demonstrate outstanding service and contributions to the Society, the profession, and the interior design industry. The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment (AIA COTE) in partnership with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and in collaboration with Architecture 2030, announce award recipients of the 2018 AIA COTE Top Ten for Students: INNOVATION 2030 Competition. The competition recognizes ten exceptional studio projects that integrate creative and innovative design strategies working towards achieving carbon-neutral operations through daylighting, passive heating and cooling systems, sustainable materials, water conservation, energy generation, and other sustainable systems.

Syska Hennessy Wins ACEC ‘Grand Award’ for Work on Lotte World Tower in Seoul

Syska Hennessy Group has received a “Grand Award” from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for its work on Seoul’s Lotte World Tower – the fifth tallest building in the world. The building performs more than 22% better than ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007, and meets the City of Seoul’s “New and Renewable” requirement of energy generation that is three percent of the building’s total energy consumption.  Syska also received a National Recognition Award from ACEC for its role in building “Office of the Future,” the world’s first 3D-printed commercial office building.

AIA COTE Top Ten Awards demonstrate advanced performance in sustainable materials usage and design

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment (COTE) announced April 19 this year’s recipients for its highest honor—the COTE Top Ten Awards. Now any number of the ten recipients may receive a COTE Top Ten Plus designation denoting projects with exemplary actual performance and post-occupancy lessons. PRISM takes a look at the resources – sustainability in materials and usage – in each recipient’s project. ‘Resources’ is just one of ten measurements used in the jury’s evaluation of each project.

BIA Extends Entry Deadline for 2018 Brick in Architecture Awards

Architectural and design firms now have until Monday, May 7 to enter the 2018 Brick in Architecture Awards, the nation’s premiere architectural design competition featuring fired-clay brick. Entries must be submitted online by May 7. The Brick Industry Association’s (BIA’s) annual awards honor outstanding, innovative and sustainable architecture that incorporate clay brick products as the predominant exterior building or paving material.
