BIA extends deadline for 2019 Brick in Architecture Awards

The Brick Industry Association (BIA) has extended the deadline for entries to November 7. Eligible projects include any work of architecture completed since January 1, 2014 in which new clay brick products comprise the predominant exterior building or paving material (over 50 percent) including: face or hollow brick, building brick, thin brick, paving brick, glazed brick, structural glazed facing tile, new clay brick products in special shapes and/or a combination of any of these aforementioned units.

ACI announces winners of annual Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announced the winners of the 2019 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards, who were honored at a Gala event during the Institute’s Concrete Convention & Exposition, October 21. The highest honor was presented to King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, located in Dhahran, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia.

Amongst the Future Project Shortlist in the twelfth edition of the World Architecture Festival are a number of schemes designed to play a major role in creating a more sustainable future. These include a tower which uses algae to produce clean air, to tackle the vast dust cloud which plagues Beijing; repurposed oil tanks creating a new eco-park to restore destroyed habitats in Brooklyn; affordable modular water dwellings for Bergen in response to growing risks of flooding; a surge protection system to counter rising sea levels in Houston; the first energy positive airport city in the world for Oslo; and a residential community incorporating a large forest ecosystem reconnecting people with nature in Samutprakarn.

Two KTGY designs selected as 2019 NMHC Innovation Challenge finalists

KTGY Architecture + Planning announced that the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) has named its five finalists for its 2019 Innovation Challenge competition, with KTGY receiving two finalist honors. This year’s challenge sought solutions for reducing the construction costs or time to bend the cost curve of housing production as a way to address the nation’s housing affordability crisis.

Studios435 named a finalist for “People’s Choice Orchid Award”

Linetec wins Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment Award

“We are proud of our long-standing reputation as a leader in environmentally conscious practices and sustainable finishing options,” said Rick Marshall, Linetec’s president. Linetec instituted a paint solvent management and recycling program with one of its suppliers. The supplier safely cleans the used solvent and returns it to Linetec for re-use. On a yearly basis, 190.6 tons of waste solvent are recycled and 128.3 tons of recycled solvent are purchased.
