Stantec selected as partner on Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization for Science (AIMS) project

Parsons, a subcontractor to the Leidos Antarctic Support Contract, has selected Stantec as the lead designer and design manager on a design-build team to handle design, architecture leadership, and interiors-planning assessments for the National Science Foundation’s (NSF’s) Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization for Science (AIMS) project. AIMS is designed to ensure that major portions of McMurdo Station—the logistics hub for the NSF-managed U.S. Antarctic Program, and the largest research facility on the southernmost continent—remains a state-of-the-art platform capable of supporting world-class Antarctic science for the next 35 to 50 years

The cladding and window systems combine multiple color profiles inspired by the Ferrari brand of luxury vehicles.

Dattner Architects and WXY Architecture + Urban Design teamed up to design New York City’s Manhattan Districts 1/2/5 Garage and Spring Street Salt Shed. The 2,600 custom perforated aluminum solar fins, “float” off the building masonry base and reduce the building’s solar heat. The louvers were protected with IFS Coatings’ IFS 500 FP, a Lumiflon-enriched product.

KAI celebrates completion of first pediatric specialty healthcare center in North St. Louis County

Designed by KAI, the 15,000-square-foot medical building houses SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Pediatric Specialty Services and also an office of SSM Health Medical Group Pediatrics. The building’s child-friendly design incorporates the use of natural lighting; a mix of vibrant colors on the walls and furniture; comforting natural materials like wood and stone; and whimsical, hand-painted artwork throughout. The single-story facility is broken down into two separate services—one half of the building is occupied by SSM Health and the other half is occupied by SSM Cardinal Glennon. Both tenants share a common reception area, waiting room and isolated sick waiting room.

The new, 32-foot clear tilt-up LBA Promenade Warehouse building is comprised of 163,056 square feet, including 5,000 square feet of office space and a 2,500 square foot wood mezzanine. Ware Malcomb provided architecture and civil engineering services for the project. The shell of the building was designed using concrete tilt-up panels, concrete slab flooring, steel beams and trusses, and an aluminum storefront system.

Modeled after London’s iconic Crystal Palace, the original Javits Center opened in 1986 and immediately gained status as the largest space frame structure in the world. In addition to incorporating a luminous glass and metal framework with brilliant views of the Hudson River and the city skyline, the groundbreaking project was characterized by the extensive use of black PPG Duranar coatings. ENCLOS, Keymark and PPG were selected to supply, design and install the building’s curtain wall components.

Above the podium, a 37-story sleek glass tower rises, capturing views of the city and the Cumberland River for the building’s occupants. The fenestration and balcony composition continue the acoustic guitar design conceit; the tower elegantly recalls the fretted neck of the instrument. Amenity decks—one for hotel guests and one for residents—provide a private outdoor experience above the busy street. The project is targeting LEED Gold certification.
