University of San Francisco achieves carbon neutrality more than 30 years ahead of goal

The University of San Francisco (USF) has met its goal of zero net carbon emissions more than 30 years ahead of its 2050 target date set in 2014 with a series of large and small steps, including reducing campus water use by 30 percent and switching to green cleaning supplies, to installing micro turbines that produce heat and electricity right on campus and purchasing mission-driven carbon offsets.

Noguchi Museum to create unified campus encompassing new art and archive building, Noguchi’s restored studio, and existing museum and garden

With the original Museum and sculpture garden established by the artist in 1985, the expanded campus will include a new 6,000-square-foot building to house the Museum’s collection and archive. Historic armory transformed into student center with SCW3000 Series windows earns Preservation Massachusetts Robert H. Kuehn Award

Western Specialty Contractors cleans, restores limestone façade of historic Decatur courthouse

Throughout its history, the Macon County Courthouse in Decatur, Ill. has inhabited a variety of buildings, from a log cabin built in 1829 where Abraham Lincoln practiced law, to a stone and brick four-story building with a clock tower built in 1892 to its current location — a five-story limestone building constructed in 1939. Western Specialty Contractors was recently tasked with restoring the historic courthouse’s 80-year-old façade.

Western Specialty Contractors installs new roof, removes skylights at Peoria realtor office

A portion of the building’s roof (16,700 sq. ft) was barrel shaped and featured a modified roofing system that had been directly adhered to a wood deck. Due to the extent of the roof’s deterioration and leaking, Western’s crews recommended applying a new TPO mechanically fastened roof on top of the existing one, replacing the gutters, installing TPO wall flashing, and removing and infilling the old skylights with HVAC penetrations.
