Orlando International Airport’s South Intermodal Terminal Facility topped with Acurlite skylight, finished by Linetec

The ITF is expected to be the first building on the Orlando International Airport campus to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® v4 certification standards. Featuring an 8,000-square-foot, heavy-duty commercial skylight, the ITF’s daylighting system helps connect those arriving and working within the space to the welcoming surroundings and Florida sunshine outside. Acurlite Structural Skylights, Inc. manufactured and installed the low-rise, segmented barrel vault skylight. Linetec provided stretch forming, thermally improvement and finishing of the skylight to meet the airport’s aesthetic, sustainability and high-performance requirements.

Shepley Bulfinch Selected to Revitalize UMass Amherst Student Union Building

Shepley Bulfinch announced that it has been selected to design the revitalization of the 108,000 GSF Student Union building on the University of Massachusetts (UMass) flagship campus in Amherst, Mass. The approximately $55 million Student Union renovation will transform the facility into a modern hub of student activity and interaction, while reinvigorating the historic campus core around it. With a focus on re-connecting the building to nature and the surrounding landscape, the renovated Student Union will radiate outward from the geographical heart of the campus to once again become the nexus of student engagement.

Global design firm Stantec was selected to provide full-service architecture and engineering for a new student housing development in the South Neighborhood of Western Michigan University’s (WMU) campus in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The new development will be positioned along the highly-visible Stadium Drive and will provide space in a living-learning capacity. The development will provide engaging living-learning environments for students to support a reinvigorated South Neighborhood community.

After more than 60 years in business the owners decided to expand their operations into space adjacent to the business that they had formerly rented to various restaurants. Stokes Architecture was brought on board to keep the nostalgic feeling of the original restaurant while designing the restaurant expansion in a tight space. John Mirenda stepped in to construct the addition.

Shepley Bulfinch announced today the completion of Health 2, the University of Houston’s (UH) second health and biomedical sciences building. Upcycling in Newtown Square: IMC Construction Completes Equus Headquarters

IMC Construction has completed the new corporate headquarters for Equus Capital Partners, one of the nation’s leading private equity fund real estate managers. The 42,000-square-foot building at Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square is targeted for LEED Gold certification and contains 36,000 square feet of reclaimed wood. Creativity, resourcefulness and good timing resulted in cost savings for the client and kept building materials out of the landfill.

Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Completes First Phase of Campus Redevelopment Project with Glassell School of Art

The new Glassell School of Art and BBVA Compass Roof Garden designed by Steven Holl Architects and The Brown Foundation, Inc. Plaza designed by Deborah Nevins & Associates.  The completion of the Glassell School of Art—the nation’s only museum-affiliated art school serving pre-K through postgraduate students—and the The Brown Foundation, Inc. Plaza opens a public gateway to the entire Susan and Fayez S. Sarofim Campus and creates a dramatic new public greenspace for Houston. The 14-acre redevelopment is currently the largest cultural project under construction in North America.

High Performance Systems performs floor installation for electrical generation facility in New Jersey

This flooring project was completed for one of the largest electrical generation plants in New Jersey. More specifically the new flooring system would be installed in the machine shop of the facility. In the machine shop old generators and parts were refurbished which, required heavy machining equipment, forklifts, and a 50-ton hoist. Due to the heavy loads and substances required to complete daily machine shop operations, the floor needed to have excellent scratch, abrasion, impact and chemical resistance. To complete the project, High Performance Systems, a local resinous flooring contractor was hired to replace the existing 14,000 sq. ft. floor with a new epoxy system in 3 days. To avoid a plant shutdown, the project was scheduled to start on New Year’s Eve.
